How's the spelling?

I'm planning on naming my son Lachlain.

I know most of us Americans expect to see it spelled Lachlan, Lochlan or some other modernized verson. I like the more traditional spelling.

What do you think?

  • See, I don't get where everyone's saying it will be mispronounced. I got it right away. I like the spelling.

  • You may get Lack Lane, instead of Lach Lyn

  • You'll get a lot of mispronunciation, but I like it.

  • I'd give it some thought, really.... think of every time a nurse or doctor calls his name, school, appointments, etc. You and he both will be doing a LOT of correcting and I think it would eventually get on your nerves

  • I was a little unsure of how to pronounce it at first. I know if someone said that name to me and told me to spell it there's no way I would do it correctly.

I think Lachlan is the spelling I like the best because when it's spelled Lachlain, I think it's pronounced Lock Lane instead of Lock Lun, which I'm thinking is the correct way to pronounce it.

  • I gues I don't really get hung up on people saying it wrong. I mean my name is Lindsay, pretty common and people still can't get it right. I think mispronunciation is a thing that happens no matter if your name is John Smith.

  • I get (Lock-lain) form that spelling and i guarantee your SON will be correcting people forever about the pronunciation and spelling. I personally would make it easier on him and spell it Lachlan. You might not get hung up on people saying it wrong but he might and its not going to be YOUR name for the rest of your life. BTW i love the name Lachlan.
