Does anyone here make beef stew in a crock pot?

If so, do you brown the stew meat first, or just throw it in raw with everything else?

  • I brown it. I am always worried about undercooked meat. It tastes better too cuz you can season the meat! Good luck:)

  • I've always put it in raw, but I've heard that browning makes a better taste.

  • I have done both. I prefer browning it beforehand.

  • I've tried it both ways, and I prefer browning it first. Not doing it makes it ok, but browning it gives a deeper, richer color and flavor. The extra few minutes is worth it.

  • Doing it today, I browned it so it would cook a little faster in the cp since I didnt' get it started as early as I should have - normally I wouldn't have though.
