Would you have a problem...

I've seen some posts where the child wants a different race for their doll. Would you purchase a doll of a different race?

Would you purchase a gender specific toy for your opposite sex child if they wanted it?

Me, yes and yes. My son in fact wanted a baby doll of a different race. Then again, we have all sorts of races in our family, so I don't have a problem with it.

  • Yep I'd have no prob w it. My dd likes to play w "boy toys" sometimes and my both my ds like to play w "girl toys" sometimes. The race thing wouldn't bother me either. No diff to me than having a friend of a diff race. A person is a person, no matter thier color.

  • My son actually has a Cabbage Patch Kid. If he wanted a doll of a different race, I would buy him one. His only cousins are biracial.

  • It doesn't matter to me. I'm mixed, my moms white, dads black, my SO's cousins are puerto rican and black, my moms side of the family is mostly white, my step grandma is mexican, and one of my aunts is half white half japanese. My son is not sheltered from certain races.

Gender Specific Toys? My son plays with all toys currently, we mostly have learning toys so no gender specifications, teddy bears, musical toys, etc.

  • I would be fine w/ either of those requests. I think life gives us enough limits, so let the kids enjoy life before the judgments & stigmas come along.

  • Sure, my kids had dolls in every color of the rainbow, it wasn't a big deal to us, and they both liked "boy" toys too, again, no big deal.

  • My dd only plays with white baby dolls but I guess if she wanted a black on I would get it for her. I think she just wants her "baby' to look like her. She is half hispanic but looks mostly white. She does play with my 11 year old brother's old toys though and I have no problem with it
