3 Bumps

My 17 yr old son just got his first little car. He is going places he should not, and doing things like leaving school early, and I even found out he skipped school with his girlfriend. I am a single mother and want ideas on what a proper discipline should be. They both apologized for skipping school and said it would not happen again.

  • Are there any RULES set up? If not, meet with him and write up a rules list. Have him sign it and agree to it. Then if he breaks the rules, the car is taken for a week or whatever you feel is fair.

Stick to your guns Girl! Good luck.

  • Take the keys and let him ride the bus to school.

  • HA! A week? More like a month! He needs to prove he is going to be responsible, a week is not going to do that.

  • Take the keys until he can prove he is responsible

  • Driving is not a right, take his license from him. Tell him until he behaves he will be taking the bus or walking. You are responsible for him if he wrecks in the car and is at fault you can be sued. I would also have a talk with the school seeing as they can't properly supervise children in their establishment.

  • Tell him you will personally turn him in to the truancy officer if he does it again. Call the gfs mom and tell on her so that you are both on the same page. Apologize and say you didnt know theyd do this and you hope maybe you can work together to make sure they arent doing it anymore. If he does it again follow through. Get him suspended if you have to. Take the keys and thats that. Do you pay the insurance on the car? If so tell him you just wont anymore.
