The Poisonwood Bible by Barbara Kingsolver, A Prayer for Owen Meany by John Irving, South of Broad by James Conroy, The Life of Pai (I forgot the author), The Shack (forgot author on this one, too)- these are all novels that will blow your mind if you like literary components such as sybolism, themes, foreshadowing, etc. The Life of Pai is, I believe, the shortest of these if you're not into reading longer novels. I'm in a Book Club; we've been going strong for over 10 years. We've read all of these books as a group, except The Shack. I'm not really interested in love or romance stories or books that read like "Murder She Wrote" episodes, so I can't help you there. But if you want thought-provoking reads, these are just a few.
