  • In the UK, when I had it, it was lamb (shepherd- see? shepherd, sheep...) in a gravy with no veggies, just mashed potato topping. In the US, I've had it as ground beef with veggies mixed in (corn, carrots, peas sorts of stuff) and gravy and mashed potato topping (which I've seen called "cottage pie" in the UK)

Both are extremely tasty and now I want them :-)

  • Shepherds Pie is one the quickest and easiest supper dishes as you can see with this easy Shepherds Pie recipe. Traditionally a Shepherd's Pie is made with ground lamb, and if using ground beef would be called a Cottage Pie but the recipe is the same for both.
