Anyone know the rules for Driver's Ed in California for new drivers?

I have a 15 year old and she's almost ready to get her permit. After she passes her permit test, will she be able to practice with me or does she need behind the wheel training as well? There is no driver's ed in our school district so she has to pay for it, but just curious about the steps.

  • She has to do drivers ed in California before getting a permit, it's mandatory. They even have it online.
Then she goes and gets her permit.
She will have her permit a mandatory 6months and will need to do 2 behind the wheel sessions with a driver's ed teacher.
Then after the 6months she can take the behind the wheel test.

She might have to be 15 and a half to get her permit though.

  • oh and she has to have so many hours of being behind the wheel with a parent, but in order to be behind the wheel with a parent she must have gotten her permit and already done one drive with a driver's ed instructor. All of this will be explained in Driver's ed.
She must drive with a person over 25years of age. Once she actually gets her license she will only be able to drive with people over the age of 20.
