Has it ever occurred to you

that the natural life-cycle of the earth may not include humans for all that much of it? Think about it, the planet's been here 4.5 billion years. We've been here 200,000 years. That's the equivalent to the length of time a body endures a stray grain of pollen before it sneezes it out.

So with all this concern over how "we've" caused the dead birds and fish, magnetic shifts, poison clouds, radiation and climate change, how do you know it's not just the big sneeze?

  • We don't. All people can do is speculate. Maybe what we as a society are doing (pollution and all that) is speeding up the "sneeze" or maybe not.

  • Whatever, dinosaurs are just a trick from the devil.

Lol, just kidding. Even if we are not here long, I still think it makes sense to try and be responsible about it. Messing things up and polluting the air, sea and land doesn't make sense. We have to live here. Might as well make it as pleasant as possible.

  • NP--I think it's even MORE ridiculous that SOME people's egos are so inflated that they honestly believe they are living and experiencing the ONLY time the Earth has gone through a cyclical change--as if it couldn't possibly have done this before!!? I mean really, how narrow minded can some people be?!

I'm not suggesting that polluting is good - more that it seems awfully damn arrogant to think that what we do has all that much of an impact one way or the other in the grand scheme of things. Do you really think driving a Prius instead of an Escalade is doing more good to the environment than it does for the ego?

  • 99% of all life that has ever existed on earth is now extinct.

    ***
And beyond "survival of the fittest, fastest, and smartest," there are KNOW reasons for such extinctions--super volcanoes, meteors hitting Earth, an Ice Age or two, massive earthquakes and tsunamis, massive hurricanes and tornadoes, etc. ALL of which contributed to weather and temperature changes which wiped out species, sources of food, and other resources necessary for survival.

And when one species dies off, it is often replaced by a "new and improved" version. Just because something becomes extinct doesn't mean we're "doomed!"
