Can parakeets and lovebirds eat "spray millet"??

Someone is giving away a box of spray millet on Freecycle... I'd love to give my birds a treat if they can have this. :)

  • Sure can,but limit it to once every few days. They tend to not eat their seed when given that treat

  • But also be aware that if they've never seen the stuff before, it might scare them. I've had parakeets who loved it, and others who flapped themselves into a frenzy.

  • yes, but I wouldn't. they get stuck on that stuff like kids to with chocolate, they they don't seem to want anything else.

and it's not like a dog, if a dog won't eat for a while because he's holding out for what he wants, he'll most likely make it. but if a bird goes on a hunger strike, it takes no time for them to die.

I don't feel my birds seed at all, they eat better that way!

  • ItsMe, have you been using the pellets? I've never been able to get a bird to take them, even when introduced gradually.

  • to brandyj - I'm just not a fan of seed at all.

I mix things the birds may not readily take into muffins and give it to them, seems to help.
