  • DH says that they don't wear out, but they can break for all sorts of reasons, like a power surge, drop, etc. or if the wire gets pinched or yanked on too hard...that kind of stuff.

  • No dont wear out but like first poster said they can get a short among many other things causing you to need a new one.....DH had to get a new one because there was a short for some reason (most likley because the way he wraped it up...)

  • From all the computer geeks I know that work and teach in that field, YES they do wear out. Eventually they will stop charging your battery and will need to be replaced.

  • YES! The batteries don't charge up the same when they're older either - after a couple years a battery that used to last 8 hours might only last 1 hour. My old computer charger got splits in the cord from being used all the time.

  • I just replaced my a/c adaptor about a month ago. It just stopped working after 3 years. I'm glad it was the adaptor, and not the laptop! Can't afford a new one right now!

  • Oh yes, they are easy to break. The wires become weak and break. My old laptop ac conector actually started smoking once. They sell universal ones at any office supply store
