is this wrong or smart?

I have to ask this, is it wrong to copy a cd you bought? by the way, the only reason he copied them was to keep them in his car. he's had three hundred dollars worth of cd's stolen from his car in one year.

  • We've been doing it for years. I have over 5,000 songs on my computer.

  • My understanding is that if you own the cd and do not distribute the copy (only keep it for personal use) it is not illegal.

  • I copy all of the CDs we purchase because the kids get the copies and not the originals. We also transfer all of the music to a hard drive as a back up.
