Plaster of Paris

This is probably a stupid question, but...I have a recipe for sidewalk chalk that I want to make with my kids. It calls for plaster of paris, and the only plaster of paris I can find says it's for patching holes in walls and things like that. Is that the same stuff, or is there more than one kind of plaster of paris?
