how much should a one month old be sleeping?

  • When they're tired, they should sleep. They should sleep until they wake up. When they're tired again, they should sleep again. Repeat as necessary.

    Under 6 weeks of age, babies routines are 'unsettled' because they're new to the world, growing sporadically and unpredictable. There is no 'should' in their sleep, apart from being left unbothered while they're doing it.

  • In the very beginning they sleep a couple hours, awake, than sleep, than awake... and I remember finding myself crying because I needed to get REAL SLEEP

  • 14-16 hours a day is what is the norm.

    3 of my children only woke to eat, then it was back to sleep. :D
