President Obama’s approval ratings has climbed to its highest point in nearly a year and opinions of Congress are up too, a new poll Wednesday found.

Fifty-three percent of Americans surveyed for an Associated Press-GfK poll released Wednesday said they approve of how Obama is doing his job.

Obama's job approval rating went up to 50 percent from 45 percent in December, the first time Obama has achieved 50 percent approval in this poll since last June.

Still, many Americans still do not approve of his job performance -- 47 percent disapproved of him in this poll, compared to 46 percent in December.

With the economy showing signs of picking up its pace of growth, more Americans are likely to say the country is on the right track -- 36 percent in January, up from 29 percent in December.

"As the economy gets better, so does the administration," said Ipsos pollster Cliff Young. "Looking to 2011, he's going to have more credibility among voters. It suggests that pushing his agenda, while difficult, is not going to be impossible."

Today Obama would beat Republican Mitt Romney by 51 to 38 percent, the poll showed. In a December McClatchy-Marist poll, he trailed the former Massachusetts governor by 46-44 percent.

Obama would defeat Republican Mike Huckabee by a similar margin, 50-38 percent. In December, the president led the former Arkansas governor by only 47-43 percent.

And he'd crush Palin by 56-30 percent. A month before, he led the former Alaska governor by 52-40 percent.

  • This climb in approval ratings might also be the result of his speech about the shooting tragedy in Arizona. Approval ratings tend to rise when there is a "unity" going on in the country. I wouldn't expect it to last long.

So, let's talk about any possibly correlation of his poll numberas and what I said about wondering if the jump is because of the extension of the Bush Tax Cuts....  Let's discuss LOGICALLY...  Ohh wait, you are a coward anon...  Impossible of applying logic.
