Can lack of sleep be effecting my immune system?

I haven't been sleeping well since December 2010 and on top of that I'm ALWAYS sick now! Is there some kind of correlation between the two?

  • Most likely. You have to rest for your body to be at its best.

  • Yes, your immune system can be severely compromised by lack of sleep, stress, etc. Try some melatonin and see if that helps your sleep cycles get back to normal. Otherwise, see a doctor.

  • YES!! The increase in stress hormones leads to inflammatory response, which lowers your immune response when you are exposed to an infection. Are you exercising at all? Exercise can really help your sleep. Also, coming up with a sleep routine, and turning off all electronics (including TV, computer and phone) at least 1 hour before bed can help.

  • Yes it can try taking an immune boosting vit and maybe a sleepy time tea at bed. Even just a 30 min nap mid day is helpful
