Anyone know a website to look at the 2011 taxes on how much you get per child?

I have 3 kids now. last year we couldnt claim our son because he was born April 2010. So we are claiming him for this year. I have his social security card number and we will be going Jan 26th to do our taxes (we are military) I can look at my last year taxes and it says $1,000 per child. So we got $2k last year. Is it for 3 kids $3,000 right?

It's not so much per child though (unless you're talking about the deduction) the child tax credit is $1000 per child up to three. But the big one for a lot of people is the earned income credit. That works like a bell curve. You get more and more money back up until about $20,000 then it starts to go back down again. If you're married filing jointly you can make $48,000 a year with 3 kids and still qualify for earned income credit. However it will only be a few dollars compared to the $5000+ you can get if you make about $20,000 a year.

Here's a link to the EIC tables for 2010 Scroll down to the bottom until you find your income range and that will give you an idea of how much of a credit you qualify for:

  • With the turbo tax link you can actually input your information for free. And you don't need your w-2s to do it. Just an estimate of how much you made.

  • Google 201o earned income credit. I don't think it increases for a third child. But I'm not 100% on that

  • The earned income credit is a max of $5,666 for 3 kids... Child tax credit is $1,000 per child, for income up to $110,000 for married filing joint.

  • you can also get on even without a w2 and get an estimate on your refund, just use your last check stub
