Do I have to file taxes?

This might be a silly question, but someone told me I don't have to file, and i'm most certain I do

I worked last year, maybe 2 months. I believe it was end of September, to beginning of November. I got 4 or 5 paychecks, at the most. I'm sure I still have to file taxes, but I have to make sure,....I don't see why I wouldn't. It won't be a big refund, but i have 2 children so that will help, right?

  • Sure you should. You didn't pay in much but you can get all kinds of credits and refunds from the Gov. Lucky you!

  • You should still file and get the Earned Income Credit. Having 2 kids will help you get a decent sized refund.

  • I suggest you do file. One year we didnt file one W2 because it was a very low amount and the next year we were audited. WE ended up having to pay back that amount which was $600 plus IRS fees and interest. All in all we payed $1700 to them freakers!

  • I'm pretty sure if you gross more than $600.00 you have to file. Just check out

  • You may not have to but I sure would for the other benefits like the EIC.

  • Yep, you've got to file. You probably won't get thousands of dollars back, but if you claim your two children you'll more than likely get back more than you put in.

    Good luck!

  • Absolutely file... I see ppl every day making NOTHING but get back $$$ w/ the earned income credit, child tax credit, etc... But being head of household (only you and 2 kids) you don't HAVE to file unless you make over $12,050... But, like I said, you may still qualify for a refund... It never hurts to try :)
