When someone passes,

And they have an insurance policy, and the beneficiary of the life insurance is not the beneficiary of the estate, does one thing have anything to do with the other? or are both things separate?

  • I am going through this right now. If that person is listed as a beneficiary on the deceased's policy, that person will receive the insurance money. The estate has nothing to do with life insurance. My sisters and I were beneficiaries to my father's insurance policies and we received the money. It did not go into his estate. They are completely different funds. Unless the policy indicates that the money goes to the estate.
