Has anyone done the cord blood for their child?

My husband and I are considering getting our son's cord blood preserved once he arrives. I am just curioius as to if anyone has ever done this and was curious as to how your experience was and what company you used. We are looking at using Securacell.

  • I couldn't; my hospital would NOT let me. They also wouldn't let me take home his placenta to encapsulate... sigh. Anyway, I have heard a lot of great things about Viacord as well.

  • Honestly, talk to your doctor first. Ours told us it's very expensive and it's not kept just for your use. So anyone might end up using your sons. But I guess the plus side of that is, you would still be able to use someone elses even if you choose not to save your sons.

  • I donated my last 2 kids - wasn't an option when I had my first 3 ten years ago.
