they check, dont they?

when your pregnant, and after all the pap smears, and blood work, they would know if you have an std, right?
or would you have to go and get it done yourself? i always thought the obgyn would know...

  • They check for STDs because you can pass them to your child during birth. Same thing with AIDS, they check for that as well, and then test the baby at birth.

  • they do chekc for STD's but some things like HPV and herpes can stay dormant in your body. You can have either for yrs and not know it until you have a break out. So if all is clear on your pap don't worry unless you break out down there or start having unusual symptoms, like burning while peeing, unusual discharge, ect.
Also at around 30wks they will check for Group B strep, everyone has it in their body, it's just a virus, but it tends to make itself present during pregnancy. all it means is you will go on an antibiotic iv in the hospital

  • Everytime I got pregnant even though I have been married to the same man they ran a full panel on blood work, including STDs. They can prevent it from passing to the baby during childbirth in most cases if they know before hand.
