My granddaughter broke my heart tonight...

She's in 1st grade. She told me she had brought home a book order the other day and that it was due back tomorrow. She told me, "Grandma, I just want to order a book for just one time". I asked her if she had ever gotten to order a book yet from the orders and she told me no. I asked my daughter tonight and she said she couldn't afford it. I help them out with a lot of stuff and I think that she just never thought to ask me. I sent her home with a blank check to place an order.

My question... Are these books still the same as they used to be back in the 90's? (Scholastic)

  • Yes they are the same. I helped to hand out the same kind of book order papers that I used to have. I think that you are a wonderful grandma, and they are very lucky to have you.

  • It is still Scholastic! I think it means so much to the kids to get to order a book & have it delivered. There is a dad at our school who often donates anonymously so that kids who don't get to place orders can.

  • Yep, great books and cheap!! She'll be super excited when they are delivered to school =)

My son has a grandma just like you and we're so thankful for her everyday- I'm sure your daughter and grandaughter are too!!

  • Yes. My boys have never ordered those books. Either they roll around when we're dead broke or not at all. However, the school has a book fair featuring all the books that were in the little paper that goes home. The book fair is 2 weeks and I LOVE that they do it. I pick my kids up from school... we walk into the library and they are in book heaven. I buy the book(s) they wanted and I personally, feel alot better.
