Birth control and antibiotics

What are the chance of getting pregnant when on the pill and are taking antibiotics. I forgot about this risk when I got prescribed the antibiotic. It's too late now if there is a risk of it lol. Do you think there is anything to worry about with this?

  • Depends on whether or not you have sex close enough to when you ovulated... because antibiotics are renowned for totally interfering with birth control effectiveness.

  • No real way to tell. Just wait and see.

  • The antibiotics counteract the effectiveness of the birth control. How likely you are to have gotten pregnant depends on how quickly your body may have acted, with the lack of extra hormone prevention, to ovulate. Most hormonal birth control works in two ways: stopping ovulation and making the uterine environment unfriendly to a fertilized egg, should it happen anyway. If you ovulated right away, then there would be nothing stopping implantation if an egg did get fertilized. If you didn't ovulate until towards the middle or end of your cycle of antibiotics, then the birth control could have kicked in in time to prevent implantation.

And this, of course, is assuming that an egg did actually get released and then fertilized. So keep in mind that even without interference, there's only a 25-33% chance of getting pregnant during any given cycle.
