how expensive is daycare for a 8 month old

I'm looking to go back to school but I need to find a daycare for my daughter and I want to know what is the average I can expect to pay every month for it. I live in kansas, I'm not sure if this makes a difference or not.

  • Just call around to different ones and get prices. I know that babies r more then older kids cause they need more help.

  • Location does make a difference, as does time. How many hours are you planning to be gone?

I'm in CA, so my numbers will be higher... but my best friend is paying $550/mo for 3 days a week. If it were 5 days she's pay $780/mo. Oh, and that's for a toddler. Infants cost more. Here, I believe it would be about $1000/mo for full time care.

  • It depends on if you use a center or in-home. You'll just have to call around. I would ask for referals in your area from other moms.

  • My daughter is at daycare from 7-5:30, so all day and it is $210 a week. She is older now, but that is how much I paid when she was 8 months old. I live in Des Moines, so it maybe somewhat comparable to Kansas.

  • thanks for the answers guys. I can not believe how expensive this will be, maybe I'll just put college off until she's already in grade school. I'll call around first like some of you suggested.
