Your daughter have her first child at 17 or 37?

I am 48 and have type 1 diabetes. I figure that I may only live to be 70 if i'm careful and lucky. If my daughter waits until she's 37 like many women are doing now I'll be 78 or most likely dead. Selfishly I hope she has her children young and doesn't put her career first.

How about you?

  • That's hard I had my 1st child at 17 and my last at 41 but if I knew that I might not be able to enjoy my grandkids if my daughter waited I'd tell her to have a baby at 17

  • Even if i wanted grandchildren really bad and was afraid I might not get to see them I would still want my child to live her life to the fullest achieving whatever she could. I would not want her to have children right away just for me.

  • If those were my only two choices I would pick 37.

  • 37...i rather she be secure and not on welfare. plus at 17 you are not really ready emtoionally or finacially. not to say all 37 yr olds are but you are more prepared with more life experience.

  • Grandchildren are not important to me although I would love them. I am going to encourage my children to never have any. I would much rather have them wait until 37 to have them. I will only be 55 and 56 then.

  • I would not want her to have a child at 17, I think it is to young. I would go with early to mid 20's at the youngest. I was 22 when I had my first and I had my 3rd at 27. Because I had my children young the though of having one at 37 seems to old to me, although I know lots of people who have had kids at this age. if I waited til 37 I wouldn't even have any kids right now and my children are 14, 12, and 9 I guess for me I want her to have children when she thinks it best fits her life.

I understand your point and I wish you luck!

  • cornflakegirl, you're cheating lol. Of course I think mid 20's would be perfect for my daughter, you have to pick one of the extremes. Although 37 isn't extreme anymore.

  • 37. I had my son young and I would absolutely rather my child live her life, secure a good job and find true love before having a child. And I disagree on the "If my daughter waits until she's 37 like many women are doing now" part. Personally, I have rarely seen a woman do this, lol. I think its waaay more rare for a woman to wait this long, especially with all the teen pregnancies lately. Lol..
