SAHM's - Do you prepare an after-school snack for your kids?

When I first stopped working outside the home, I started this 'tradition' with my kids. At first it was a chore to come up with something healthy, tasty and light enough not to spoil their appetite. Now it's something we all look forward to.     :-)

  • That's really sweet. When I became a SAHM, my youngest was 8 - so they come home and get their own snack then do their homework. I always make sure we have healthy things they enjoy, but they are pretty self-reliant in this area.

  • Sometimes. We always have a snack but many times they grab something themselves since right now I'm usually breastfeeding their baby sister when they walk in from school.

  • My boys look forward to their after school snack. This is when we sit down, snack and they tell me about their day in school.

  • Nope In the past they would just have a yogurt or string cheese or something if they got anything. Now they get off the bus around 4pm and dinner is at 5pm. There is no snack in between. They can just wait for dinner.

  • I am SAHM w/ a 4 y/o and my son is in kindergarten. By the time he's off the bus and home they're both ravenous. I make awesome dinners but snacks are all about speed and efficiency. String cheese, a slice of high fiber whole grain bread smeared w/ nut butter, etc.

  • I am home when my son gets home every day but I do not make him a snack since they have a snack at school and we eat a pretty early dinner.
