Section 8!!!! (Venting yet again)

So my MIL runs with some very questionable people. I was over at her place, and she had one of her low life friends over who kept on rambling about how happy she is because her section 8 was approved. She called everyone under the sun to tell them. Then she turned to me and told me that because I am not working I could get welfare, section 8, and a whole bunch of other things I do not need. I just listened to her and did not say a word to entertain her. But she set herself up for it. So I told her my mother would kill me if she found out I was on welfare or anything like that. ( MY MOTHER IS A FIRM BELIEVER IN NOT HAVING KIDS UNLESS YOU ARE FINANCIALLY STABLE.) I also told her that my husband makes a little over 70k a year, so why would I need to be on welfare. I thought she would shut up but no. She started talking about defrauding the system, and ways to get money for free, you know things uneducated druggies would say. Well that was it for me I totally went off on the woman, I don't remember what the hell I told her, but I do remember telling her I had no respect for her old section 8 ass, because her and her just as broke, if not more broker than her, boyfriend can't hold a job, don't like to work, and is always on the prowl trying to find a way to rip people off. That if she was a mother trying to pay her way through college and had no choice but to get on section 8, then I would have more respect for her. I then told my MIL that she needed to find better friend because she can not keep on surrounding herself with this type of trash. You clearly can't learn nothing from these people, unless you'RE defrauding people in your line if work. I know I said a mouthful to her, but I had too and I left... I think I took it too far, though!!! : (

  • Excuse me but whatever ways families use to get some freaking help is awesome in my book.  I think you are a bit trollish.  Judgemental for sure. So people on welfare are trash?  Wow.  No wonder you posted anonymous.  You think you are so much better than someone on welfare? You don't know shit about the hardships that people face and to label people on welfare as druggies is absurd.  Get a life troll.

  • Sometimes it's hard not to get upset. I had a friend years ago who constantly rubbed in my face she was getting every kind of assistance under the sun because she had a baby and couldn't even say who the father was. Somehow she felt that made her even more entitled to it. On and on and on. Finally I said I'd rather struggle all my life than be on assistance when I am able to work and that my apartment might be small but I lived in a good part of town. After that she quit bringing it up to me. I've known countless people who think it's a badge of honor to defraud the system. The last time I heard it I finally said enjoy it while it lasts because honestly I don't think the system will last long at this rate.

  • Mrs. Houston did you even read the whoel question?

The OP said this woman talked about how to deliberately DEFRAUD the welfare system, as if she were proud of having done so.

Absolutely, the system should be there for people who NEED it, but not to be abused by those who find it easier than an honest living!

  • Excuse me Mrs Houston I never said anything about people on welfare are trash, CAN YOU READ????? This woman I am referring too is trash. And good for you and your thinking if you can get money for free even if you lie is a good thing. Not me. Call me a troll if that makes you feel better about yourself, and for your information when I vent I am always anonymous, even if I was not it would not matter. DID I TOUCH A SENSITIVE SPOT? I GUESS I DID... I understand hardships, and I did say I would have RESPECT FOR HER IF SHE WAS SOMEONE WHO NEEDED IT. LEARN HOW TO READ AND COMPREHEND BEFORE YOU COMMENT NEXT TIME.

  • i would be thrilled if i applied for section 8 and got approved. here though, you can only get it if you are either a.)disabled b.) in school or c.) working

i am none of those so i wouldnt qualify. this lady has to be one of these in order to get it.

i cant even get foodstamps because apparently a monthly income of $1700/month for a family of 5 is above the income guidelines around here.

  • well I can tell you she is not disabled, and surely not in school. She was however working, but that was a few months ago I don't think she is working now, but like I said she is defrauding the system, and she was going to tell me how....

  • its possible she applied when she had the job and quit after her approval. she might think she's defrauding the system but they are going to want her proof of income regularly, not just the one time. when she is unable to provide that, they will end her benefits. so don't worry, she will get what she deserves. you just have to smile and nod when it comes to these kind of people.

  • I think the OP is assuming she was saying ways to defraud, just by her attitude towards the woman, I dont think she really was saying hot to defraud.

You know my mom also taught me, if you have nothing nice to say dont say it all all, I also think there must be something about how how the OP lives that makes her think that she is in need.
