  • I am not a fan. It can be used for a boy or girl. A woman I used to work with had a grandson named Dakota. And there is Dakota Fanning.

  • It's used for both boys and girls. Both of the children I have met with that name are boys. I know it is also used for girls (Dakota Fanning), but I haven't actually met any girls with that name.
