  • Preperation-H is used to reduce the swelling and burn from hemmroids, it restricts the blood flow so I wouldn't use it. They do have anti- itch creams but maybe a anti-itch shampoo would work better.

  • No...If the dog has an itchy butt it might have other issues...seek vet.

  • NO! If the dogs rear end is itching, the dog is probably having issues with his anal glands and need to have them expressed. Take the dog to the vet.

  • It's better to go see a vet and get to the root cause of the itching. Since you were wanting Preparation-H, like the others, I'm guessing your dog is scooting his/her rear end. It can be caused by a couple of things. It is occasionally seen in tapeworm infections when the segments leave the body and cling to the hair at the rectum - the squirmy segments will dry on the hair and can cause irritation. The other reason is anal glands. Anal glands should express on their own when the dog poops, but if they are plugged or clogged or there are other issues, they can cause mild discomfort that can lead to infection and rupture. For either case, a vet visit is warranted. If the itching is elsewhere in the body, you still want to see the vet to get to the root cause. Putting an ointment on it only covers up the symptoms, it doesn't solve the underlying issue.

  • Oh! I just remembered that on CBS Early show today, they had a segment on pets and said that if your dog has dry skin,
for a large dog, I TBSP of olive oil poured over your dogs food twice a week
for a small dog. . 1 tsp of olive oil poured over your dogs food twice a week
will help their skin and coat be smooth and silky!
    hope this helps?

  • NO! You need to find out WHY your dog has an itchy hiney BEFORE you go putting crap on it. Call your vet.

  • Itchy pet-  See your Vet if the itching continues;  Here are some good things to try:

SoothingTea tree Hot spot shampoo for dogs     http://www.apluspetcare.com/untitled4.html

A soothing Oatmeal Shampoo for dogs

Even a aloe vera natural gel would be better than the Prep H.

    Good luck....
