potty training my son...

My son is a lil over 2 1/2 years old. he is smart and just learning to talk. i ask him if he went poop or pee and he always answers no even tho i know he has. diapers are getting really expensive and i want to train him. i have taken him to the potty here and there and he will sit on it but not for very long and if i force anything he throws a fit, i also dont want to force so much where he hates the potty so i kind just let it go and put a diaper on him. i have tried sticker charts doesnt motavate him i have tried showing him a candy he just gets mad he cant have the candy i dont know what to do. does this all mean he might not be ready to potty train???? help!!!!!

  • If you are willing to do a little bit of mopping and cleaning, just put him in underpants and take him to the potty every hour until he gets it. The charts and candy aren't working because he doesn't really understand what you are asking him to do yet. To us, it's simple. You get that funny feeling. You go to the bathroom, undress as much as you need, sit down, relax some muscles, tense some others, do what you need to do. You are asking him to pay attention to that funny feeling, to link the feeling with wetness and poop, to link all that with the actual feeling of going. It's actually quite a lot to learn.

  • my pediatrician says not to expect a boy to potty train until he is at least 3 yrs old more likely 3 1/2. but we are having luck as long as our son is naked from the waist down, he just pees if he has anything on the bottom half...
