How to wash dishes with my 19 month old?

How can I go about doing my dishes without sticking my 19 month in front of a Tv? I already have so many chores to do then I don't wanna do the dishes at nap time or bedtime

  • I actually stand mine in a chair right beside me and let him "help" me. He already knows he can pick up the plastic things and rinse them, but he can't bother the glass things. Afterwards, I move him to another part of the counter, give him the dishrag, and let him wipe the counter. He loves it!

  • I like popzaroos answer. My son is 16 months, and he would be absolutely heartbroken if I stuck him in a playpen! I know everyone's different. I use a playpen for a crib when I'm traveling, but I've never had the heart to put him in it during active hours.

  • I had a low cabinet with pots, spoons, containers, etc., with a cute rug in front. My daughter would happily play at my feet while I washed dishes.
