# 3x - 12 = x

different equation, how

Asked by Anonymous at 12:10 PM on Jan. 24, 2011 in

• 3x-12 = x becomes:

2x=12 (add -x to both sides and 12 to both sides to isolate the variable)

x=6

• 3x - x = 12
2x = 12
x = 6

• Same thing. get the x's on one side and the 12 on another. 3x-3x-12=-3x+x....than divide both sides by the 12.....I feel like we're doing all the work for you.

• It's been a while but if I remember right both x's will be the same number here. If I'm right about that then 6 should be the answer but I forget how to check it. Am I even doing this right... 3 x 6 - 12 = 6 ?
