  • OK I used to do nails for a living, here's the difference.

Acrylic is immediatly cured with the monomer(the liquid)

Gel nails are acrylic, they are just cured by a UV lamp to become hard.

But, be careful, sometimes places charge for "gel nails" when they are using acrylic and just using the gel sealer over the top. True gel nails are cured under the lamp step by step. If they use any form of powder those aren't true gel nails.

For me I can't use gel, they peel right off, others it's fantastic!

  • I prefer the gel; I like to have a french manicure and they are always shiny and don't yellow. I've had both with colored polish and I don't think it made any difference.

  • I bite mine off. They are not effective in hot water. Let's just say it depends also who does your nails. Personally the uv are the best fake nails. The rest are not ans also not healthy. I noticed since I stopped getting fake nails, I do not inhale all the fumes and dust and sleep better. Seriously, after getting nails I would break out in my face and or cough a lot during the night. I am so glad I broke that habit. It was not worth it at all.

  • I like the acryllic nails better the gels because the gels didn't look right and were too expenise and i was always having problems with the gels. i never had a problem with acylics.,
