do you ever feel bland?

I feel kind of bland sometimes. I mean, I know what I like, but then when people buy me gifts they always say "I had no idea what to buy for you" I call it the vanilla candle syndrome..can I really be so boring that people can't walk into a store and see anything that reminds me of them? this is like my family...people who have known me for 40 odd years...they should know that I like dogs, sunflowers, stationary, clothes, jewelry, scrapbooking, knitting, reading, movies...yet they always give me something like a candle or a blank journal, or a watch..I never wear watches!! sigh...I appreciate the gifts, but I wish they'd try a little harder. or maybe, its me. maybe I am really just so bland that no one can tell who I am, or what I like

  • I'll offer this consolation. The most interesting people I know are always the hardest to buy for. :)

  • May be they know these things about you but just tried to think outside the box.

  • I always tell people what I'd like to have. That helps them figure it out

  • I tell people WHAT I want... no choices just "get me this" if they ask.
What's so screwed up, is that I never get the ONE thing I ask for. Ever.

Take Christmas, for example. My sister (my own sister, who has known me for almost 22 years) drew my name. She asked what I wanted. I said "Bread machine". Too expensive, she says. Ok. Since I know if I get a gift card or cash I'll spend it on the kids, I say "There's a massage place in (town nearby) that does 1hr massages for less than $40. Get me a gift cert." What did I get?

A waterscape thingy. Like I can even put that anywhere in my house with these 3 kids (and another on the way) running around.
I took it back to Walmart and bought my kids some shoes.

  • I get so overwhelmed sometimes that I feel blank. It's like my mind reaches full capacity and then...nothing. But I think it comes and goes with PMS.....yuck!

  • I know exactly how you feel. i got 4 snuggies. i don't even like snuggies, give me a robe any day. i gave my mom, daughter's , son and fiance all things that i really wanted or needed and got none. on valentines day my fiance of 9 yrs always get me a dozen roses. i love roses but it is the same old thing every year. give me a book, new outfit, jewelry, a kitten or something he know's i like. i would like to enjoy my gift more than a few days. i hope that doesnt sound mean. i know the blank feeling all to well.

  • I've known my dad for 30+ years and he has to be the hardest person to buy for, not because he's bland but because he's the opposite - he's very busy and doesn't seem like he has time for regular hobbies. Maybe this is how your family feels about you.

  • I've often thought this about myself too. Sigh.
