5 Mile Run

My workout partner and I have signed up for a relay marathon. Each person on our team will run 4-5 miles out of a full marathon. Neither of us are runners. We are actually trying to shed the rest of our baby weight. We workout an hour a day, 5 days per week. What is the best way to increase the distance we can run?

If this helps, this is our usual routine:
20 minutes on the elliptical or stationary bike
20 minute slow jog (4 mph) on treadmill
20 minutes weights/abs/whatever

  • Have you heard of the Couch to 5K program (C25K)? They also have a Couch to 10K for the more experienced runners who need to increase their distance. They have a system where you will be running this in 9 weeks-
