1 Bump

Does anyone have this problem?

My 6month old boy is growing fairly slow. I am not a big person, but I thought he would reach at least 20 lbs by now. My other 3 other children were big babies...

  • My 6 month old weighs just under 12 lbs, but she's running right in line with her other 4 siblings, and the weight I was when I was a baby. I'm a small person, so I always expected my kids to run small too. Not many 6 month olds weigh 20 lbs - none of mine weighed 20 lbs at a year!

  • The average weight of a 6mo baby is 16 pounds, not 20. 20 is overweight for most 6mos.

  • Every child grows at a different rate. My 28 month old only weighs about 22 pounds! You should talk to his doctor if you are concerned about his growth.

  • My 2nd son seems like he hasnt grown as fast as my first ,he is 11mos & he probaly only weighs 23lbs.

I think your son is fine as long as he is eating good & keeping it down I wouldnt worry about just ask his doctor next time you see him.

  • His doctor said he is in the 15th percentile. That means that 75% of babies are larger than him, and the only reason I am worried is because the size of his siblings.

  • My older kids have always been in the 50th percentile or higher....not my little guy....he's in the 3-5th percentile (and he started out in the 90th)!

  • Don't worry, every child is different, even if they are siblings. If he's otherwise healthy, I would NOT be concerned just because he's not 20 lbs at 6 mos. My son wasn't 20 lbs until he was about 18 mos!

  • i was wondering about my daughter.. we weighed her dec. 23. she was 18 lbs so i thought she would be 19 lbs when we weighed her the day before. she usually gains a pound a month . i wonder if their growth slows down. and they are definitly not overweight just because they are 20lbs. its like saying its wrong to have blue eyes. that is what my doctor said.
