  • My son has always been able to swallow pills, I on the other hand couldn't swallow them till I was taking prenatal pills- at 22.

  • My almost 6 yr old can swallow them with a lot of water and encouragement. He'll just bite into it if he can't swallow it. He can have 200mg of ibuprofen, which is 1 adult pill.

  • I have a 7 yo & a 9 yo, and they've both been able to swallow pills since they were about 4 & 5. They still take kids meds, but last week we did have to give the 9 yo a regular Tylenol (just 1) because there wasn't enough of the kids' left for a full dose, and she really needed it.

  • I guess dh was right.

I have always (still do) trouble swallowing pills so when my girls couldn't do it I didn't worry. I thought at their ages ( 5 & 7 ) most couldn't do it. I still give them the childdren's liquid or chewables. I never even thought to give them adult meds ( I figured age 12)

My 7 yr old has an earache and dh was complaining about her being old enough for regular pills so I thought I'd see what others said. He said he took regular adult pills at age 7. I thought he was nuts. Maybe he's not. :-) If they have kids meds in pill form I think I'll let dd decide. :-)

  • Have them pratice with tic tacs and it will help them not be fearful when learning to swallow medication. Good Luck.

  • My daughter at that age struggled at first but as far medications. We still have children's motrin in liquid form for her. Some of them go up to 12 .
