Do you cut up old credit cards before tossing them?

I do. I always have. I even put the pieces into more than one trash can, though sometimes I wonder if that is overkill ...

  • If that keeps you safer then it's not "overkill".  Paycheck stubs, etc. always get put into different bags of trash.  Who needs the drama of dealing with identity theft.

  • Always. I start by cutting horizontally through the numbers and the mag stripe, then cut into tiny pieces from there. We also shred (cross cut shredder) anything that has personal information on it before we throw it out.

  • Truthfully no I do not. People who know that I don't do this think I am crazy, but so far (knock wood) nothing has ever happened. I am talking about cards whose numbers are no longer valid.

  • Our shredder has a credit card feature on it. We run them through there.
