Attn. Nurses: Do you add a degree to a thermometer placed on the temple?

My mom is a retired nurse and she says certain thermometers don't read accurately so you add a degree. I have a newer digital thermometer that reads in 5 seconds when placed on the temple. It read 99.3 just now with DD, and earlier it read 100 exactly. My mom is telling me I need to add a degree, so earlier it was 100.3 and 101. :( Is this true??

  • No, you only add a degree when taking the temperature under the arm.
