My 1yr old is still on pureed food as he has issues with gagging. Any advice would be great.

  • Depends on how may teeth he has. So you have tried thicker foods? Like yogurts and puddings

  • He has almost 7 teeth but when he has food in his mouth he pushes it all the way back and then gags and throws up most times.

  • My 2.5 year old ds is still on pureed foods, he has oral sensory issues and I suspect that he's having problems with his adenoids as well (we're waiting to see an ENT about it).

  • Normally children who start on solid foods do gag on the food. Seeing as they're just learning how to chew and swallow it properly. Now, if his gagging isn't caused by the food being new then clearly he should be on pureed foods. But if it is due to him just learning to eat the foods then prolonging him from starting solids will only set him back.

  • What does your doctor say? Have you had a swallow test or anything done to rule out any other issues? Have you seen an ENT to make sure the tonsils & adenoids aren't so big they're blocking the way?
