  • You need to start going to the library every day, and read the Wall Street Journal (or get a subscription). Also, read the business section of major newpapers online (like Chicago Tribune and New York times), and the Motley Fool:

  • I wouldn't recommend buying single stocks. Maybe you could look into a mutual fund. Basically a mutual fund is thousands of stocks from different companies and you buy a little of each. That way if one company goes under, you've still got 999 going strong. That's the just of it anyway.

    What kind of mutual funds? Well that will depend on your risk tolerance, how long you're investing for etc. A financial adviser can help you figure out some good mutual funds to buy. Generally though you'll want to buy them with the plan to hold onto them for the long haul.
