What is considered an appropriate grounding for my 13 year old teen who has gotten 3 "D's" on his current report card?

(Keep in mind that he is very intelligent and can do his work without any assistance, but just thinks playing video games is most important) :-(

  • Video games would be locked away until reports cards with improved grades arrive.

  • Take away all video game equipment!

  • You could take away all of his gaming stuff and have him earn it back. This isn't really a grounding though, it is a natural consequence of his poor decisions. I wouldn't let him do any gaming until he can consistently keep his grades at at least a "B". That might mean no gaming until summertime. Whatever you choose to do, be prepared to follow through.

  • take away all video games and the computer if he plays on that also. and make sure the computer is only used for school and he has to do all homework and you have to check it and make sure you follow up with his teachers and if he has a test or quizes that you follow up and help him study. and if his grades do not improve then he will lose the video games for good. be on him like a fly. kids hate that so he will probably start improving just to get you off his back. good luck

  • More of the reason he should get in trouble! If he can actually do the work, and YOU know that, there's no excuse.

POOF! goes the videogames until the grades start to come up.

  • Video games are gone till her can raise the grades to at least a B, seeing friends is limited, no phone or tv till after school work is done.

  • My 13yo is doing the samething. We have taken away anything fun. Plus we started going to school and just popping in on him. All the teachers have welcomed that with open arms, he never knows when we may stop in. And if by the end of the week he hasn't improved, my DH is going back to 7th grade for a day, LOL.
