Anyone else find this ignorant?

At the drs office over the weekend I got to talking w/another mom. She had 5 kids with her and said she wanted 2 more so she could be done by the time she was 35. That doesn't bother me. Some people like large families. Then she said she hopes her daughters start their families early - like 16 0r 17 years old!

Am I the only one who finds this disturbing? These girls will still be kids themselves! And what about being able to support yourself before having kids? Now, I am NOT bashing those who found themselves pregnant at a young age. I am talking about a mother encourgaging teen pregnancy. What do you think?

  • agreed- very ignorant and extremely poor parenting! there is nothing wrong with starting early.. but by early i mean 20-25. atleast have a highschool diploma before you start procreating. accidents happen but with mom's encouragement those girls are likely to be teen moms on purpose someday. how unfortunate!

  • Some needs to take a bat to her head and knock some sense into her! I really hope she doesn't encourage her daughters to have kids that young!

  • I think that is really really strange! Disturbing and strange.

  • I find it disturbing she should be encouraging her girls to get an education not a baby at 16.

  • Wow! I don't understand any mother wanting her daughter to start a family so young. I think our children already grow up too quickly without our encouragement.

  • It wouldn't ruin my world and I wouldn't think any less of my children if they ended up having a baby that young but no it is NOT something that I actually want for them.  And HELL no I would NOT be encouraging them to have babies that young.  To each their own but I want my children to experience life without the responsibility of a child.

  • She's bound to be disappointed.

  • It's probably "the norm" for her, sadly.

  • Was she related to the mom from nineteen kids and counting? lol

  • Wow, I hope her daughter's are smarter than their mom! A 16 or 17 year old needs to experience the world a bit first, to figure out what they want in life for themselves, not what momma wants for them. That mother should be ashamed of herself if she's actively encouraging her girls to become pregnant so young.
