  • Some of the more common ways to stretch out a single box of macaroni and cheese is by adding in some meat.

    one can of tuna, drained
3 sliced, cooked hot dogs cut in medallion shaped discs
1/2 pound of ground hamburger, drained
1/2 pound cubed, cooked ham or spam
1/2 pound sliced Kielbasa or German sausage
3 strips of cooked, crumpled bacon

    1. Prepare boxed macaroni and cheese mix as directed.
    2. After cooking, stir in one of these meat ideas.
    3. Pour mixture into casserole dish.
    4. Place in 350 degree oven for 15-20 minutes until hot.

Optional: along with the meat, stir in a 1/2 can of condensed cream of mushroom or cream of celery soup for a creamier casserole.

  • add tuna and peas and serve over toast. or, add ground meat and tomatoes and serve over toast. (we do the toast because it makes it go farther!) :) cut up hot dogs and put in it.

  • My kids like to put kidney beans in their mac and cheese. I've heard it's good if you add a can Rotel to it, but I've never done it. I have cut up broccoli and mixed it in and think it's pretty tasty.

  • I add shredded broccoli to this:

    All Day Macaroni and Cheese

    8 ounces elbow macaroni
4 cups shredded sharp Cheddar cheese
1 (12 fluid ounce) can evaporated milk
    1 1/2 cups milk
    2 eggs
    1 teaspoon salt
    1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper

In a large pot, cook the macaroni in boiling
water 10 minutes, or until al dente, and drain.

In a large bowl, mix the cooked macaroni,
3 cups of the sharp Cheddar cheese, evaporated
milk, milk, eggs, salt, and pepper.

Transfer to a slow cooker that has been coated
    with non-stick cooking spray.

Sprinkle with the remaining 1 cup of shredded
    sharp Cheddar cheese.

Cover, and cook on Low for 5 to 6 hours, or until
the mixture is firm and golden around the edges.

Do not remove the cover or stir the mixture until
    the mixture has finished cooking.
