1 Bump

Steps to weaning your LO. Input please :)

My LO is 7 mo. and still nurses 8 times a day and eats cereal with fruit or veggies 3 times. I would like her weaned by 1 year and would love input on what works best as far as feeding schedules. She also has just started drinking a little juice/water mix from a bottle because she seemed really thirsty the more solids she ate.

I just have no idea as she goes along how much she should be eating and how many times a day. She will go longer periods about 3 hours during the day (even though I usually feed her every 2) and 3-5 at night.

  • I'm still nursing my 10 mo, no end in sight here. But I'm a SAHM so I don't see why I would cut her off. I have no idea about weaning, But I would suggest you offer her juice in a sippy instead of a bottle. Then she wont get attatched to the bottle and have to give up, yet another, comfort. Maybe pumping and putting it in her sippy will allow hertp get the delicious milk she's used all while being independant with her own cup :)

Sorry if I am no help at all :/

  • Feed her on whatever schedule is convenient... there is no "wrong" way to go as far as the solids go... but nursing or a bottle come first all the way to the first birthday. There's no such thing as too little solids while she's still nursing.

Wean by dropping one feeding per week till gone. You will need to replace the nursings with formula till she turns one. If you want to avoid that, you can wait till the first birthday, go to milk or water for hydration and then proceed with your one feeding dropped per week schedule

  • Agree with Gdiamante. Before 12 mos of age, replace 1 nursing session per week with formula. And as far as solids go, let her take the lead.
