my cream cheese frosting is very running how can i thicken it up

i use fat free cream cheese and fat free margarine plus powdered sugar

  • I can't imagine why it is runny, could it have something to do with the fat free? I agree use more powdered sugar. I will look at my recipe to see what goes in it but I don't think you are adding anything different.

  • 1 (8 ounce) cream cheese
    5 tablespoons butter
    1 cup powdered sugar

    It will be runny if you use margarine. So make sure its BUTTER.

  • If it is runny, add more powdered sugar. It has a starch in it, so it will help. In the future, use Smart Balance, and you won't have that problem.

  • my mom has used butter and margarine and it turns out ok. she uses cream cheese, a little milk, vanilla extract, and butter/marg, and powdered sugar. the sugar is always in last and she adds untill it's right, everything else is measured.
