Muslim Brotherhood: ‘Prepare Egyptians for war with Israel'
By YAAKOV LAPPIN

A leading member of the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt told the Arabic-language Iranian news network Al-Alam on Monday that he would like to see the Egyptian people prepare for war against Israel, according to the Hebrew-language business newspaper Calcalist.

Muhammad Ghannem reportedly told Al- Alam that the Suez Canal should be closed immediately, and that the flow of gas from Egypt to Israel should cease “in order to bring about the downfall of the Mubarak regime.” He added that “the people should be prepared for war against Israel,” saying the world should understand that “the Egyptian people are prepared for anything to get rid of this regime.”

Ghannem praised Egyptian soldiers deployed by President Hosni Mubarak to Egyptian cities, saying they “would not kill their brothers.” He added that Washington was forced to abandon plans to help Mubarak stay in power after “seeing millions head for the streets.”

Is this what you are cheering on?

  • What the world needs? Sure if we want another war & gas prices to go through the roof. Then sure its what the world needs. It sounds to me like instead of just getting democracy Egypt is going to teeter on more then just a civil war. Too bad. It would have been nice to see them actually get democracy I am sure most of them wanted and asked for.

  • Here is the platform of the Muslim Brotherhood

It calls for the establishment of an undemocratically selected board of religious scholars with the power to veto any legislation passed by the Egyptian Parliament and approved by the president that's not compatible with Islamic law. The platform also called for banning women and Christians from high office.

  • I think most people have very little understanding of middle eastern politics and history and when they share thier opinion it's based on what they've seen on TV in the last few weeks.

  • I'm not up on Egypt/Israel relations so why do these people hate Israel so much that they want to kill the people? Is it just because the government wants to keep Mubarak in power?
The people want change in the government and now we hear about these groups wanting war with Israel. What does one have to do with another?

Good Question. It seems as though they would be two different issues right? Well, not with Hammas and the MB. The war issue with Israel was never discussed on FB or Twitter with these young male Egyptians, was it? Nope. Just crazy wildfire messages online about protesting Mubarek. Protesting Mubarek, a good thing maybe, but using the opportunity to kill Jews because they are Jews? All of those hypertexting young males and throwing rocks at relics idiots, will soon be wearing Khaki and carrying a weapon. When you have extremely large groups of males in the streets in the ME it NEVER turns out good.

    Probably.
However, I cut them no slack for ignorance.
If a person decides to support verbally and cheer on people who want to kill Jews just because they are Jews, should really be forced to be reminded of that decision for the rest of their ( online ) lives.
I understand some are young and dumb, and some are heavily influenced by news media, but I cut them no slack.

  • Israel was "created" for the jews after WW2 because everyone felt really bad about the holocaust. The palestinians who already lived there didn't take kindly to this and tried to fight back but lost. Many of them were forced into refugee camps (and are still there 50 years later) in the surrounding countries. As you can imagine after a few years of being in a dirty, overcrowded refugee camp people got pretty rowdy and started causing problems (besides the expense of maintaining the camps) for all the countries who were giving them shelter causing a lot of resentment towards Israel.

What to do with the refugees is a big part of the middle east peace problem because nobody wants them but they can't go home cause the jews are taking up the space they would have lived in. On the flipside the jewish families have been living there for generations now so it's not like they can just be kicked to the curb.

It isn't our business to dictate their government, if they attack one of our allies, we will provide some sort of support but that's an IF. The PEOPLE are protesting a President / dictator and corrupt government.....can you BLAME them for THAT? That uprising is being hi-jacked by GROUPS with another cause...

The situation was created by their leader...NOT us....and NOT the people
