determining cost of living / evaluating a salary

If you were applying for a job in another area of the US, how would you evaluate the salary? What I mean is, how would you determine if the job pays well? What are specific questions you would ask, or specific things you would look up?

Thanks for any ideas!! :o)

  • Use a couple different ones because they can differ/ Look up home cost and compare them to the area you are living in now. Some places have a lower cost of living but a much higher cost of housing most sites will let you put in the city or in now and the one you are thinking of and give you a precentage. Don't forget to use surrounding towns if you would be willing to comute a bit too.

  • See how much you are going to make what you would have left after rent/mortgage, insurances, utilities , state stickers/ city , how far from a place that you live will you have to drive to get to work. Figure in what you would need to maintain things as you live now and then if you move will they pay any moving costs.
