Can you solve this ethical dilemma? (My life as a Star Trek Parity)

We try to teach our child that all live has value.
My DH and DD found a FLY outside in the snow. My DD had to bring it in, because our natural born enemy “would DIE if we left it outside!”
It’s been 4 days, it’s GROWN!
Here’s the dilemma, if we put it outside it will die, BUT it’s in a small milk bottle (from McDonald’s) what kind of life is that?
But I can’t advocate killing it suggesting death would be preferable to living in an unwanted circumstance. We don’t kill our elderly, to keep them out of a nursing home. And NO I am NOT going to let it out!

So now what do I do with the Fly!

  • The same thing would be happening in our house too!! We recently found a really big daddy long legs that we normally would have put outside but since it's so cold we decided to just look away at let it travel where it may. Luckily we haven't seen it again since!!

  • The natural life of a fly is like three days. Explain it like that.

  • You already broke the Prime Directive by interfering in the life of the fly.
