Do you lock up the house every night or do you expect someone else to do that?

If you are sick, do other family members remember to do it? How do you react if you get up in the morning and find that doors have been open all night? Has anyone ever entered your home in this way? What does your insurance policy cover in these cases?

  • our doors are only locked at night and my husband does it or my oldest daughter does it...we live in a town so small we don't have a police station and there really is not any crime

  • My husband does it at night, but I leave the doors unlocked pretty much all day and we've never had a problem.

  • I lock it up because my husband grew up never having to lock his doors. He will go to bed with all the lights and TV on too though. When I was a kid, i remember a couple times where strangers have walked into our house - not to take anything, but just lost, I guess. I think all insurance plans are different.

  • I always lock my doors...even during the day. Just a habit that I have made...nobody has ever tried to come in that I know of. I would hope that insurance would still cover stolen items if the person entered without permission.

  • It is hubby's job to make sure they are closed and secured, and if not my son takes over.
