If you like buffets, what kind of buffets do you like?

I don't really care for them. I think it's scary to eat food that's been sitting there at questionable temps for who-knows-how-long, but occasionally I don't mind a good Indian buffet.

  • I like this place called Souplantation. It's mainly a salad buffet but then they have a some different choices of soups, pasta, and bread as well. Yum.

  • I like buffets in good quality places, not the cheapest ones. Like the hotels in my area will often have a buffet on a holiday or during busy times, they're very good. In Las Vegas, the better casinos have good one, the lesser quality places have lesser quality ones. I don't like ethnic buffets, because too often the cooks and managers don't truly understand or follow the health regulations. I learned this when I worked placing apprentice cooks in different restaurants. Not all are like that, but many are. Some indications of safety issues are if the temperatures of hot food are not really hot, or cold food are not really cold, or you don't see anyone changing out food trays. If I'm watching my budget, I'd rather eat in a small cook-as-ordered diner than at a buffet.

  • Chinese, the one we go to goes through food so quickly it's always fresh.

  • Oh...I did really like Souplantation and Sweet Tomatoes and Fresh Choice! The soup and salad bars don't bother me as much as the other buffets, but it is scary that they sprinkle the veg with MSG to keep it "fresh". I always just asked if they had any that hadn't been defiled yet.

  • There's a good buffet at Four Winds Casino in SW MI and Blue Chip in Indiana. I LOVED Captain George's seafood buffet when I lived in VA Beach.
